If you have asthma you know how terrifying it can be when you feel like you can’t breathe during an asthma attack. I have learned the best way to prevent asthma attacks from happening is to keep track of my symptoms. I have been using a free smartphone app from Health Storylines which makes it easy to monitor my asthma symptoms.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for Health Storylines. I have been compensated through the Chronic Illness Bloggers network. All opinions remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company.

The Asthma Storylines app from the Allergy & Asthma Network is powered by Health Storylines™. The asthma app is a self-care tool that helps you take an active role in managing your asthma treatment. It gives you an accurate record of your asthma symptoms that you can share with your doctor.

The Asthma Storylines app enables you to:

  • Track your symptoms, vitals, moods, and daily asthma control
  • Record questions you have for your doctor
  • Remember appointments and to take medications on time
  • Journal about your asthma and other aspects of daily living
  • Connect, share, and receive messages of encouragement from your circle of support

The mobile app is free for all users on IOS and Android devices. There is also a web version available from your desktop computer or mobile device.

The Health Storylines Asthma App

The Asthma Storylines app makes it easy to record your asthma symptoms, what triggers them, and how it impacts your moods and daily life. I have been able to make use of the asthma app’s features to monitor my symptoms and keep track of what leads up to an attack. By tracking my asthma symptoms on a daily basis, I have begun to see a pattern emerge that will hopefully help give me more control.

Medication Reminders

I take two daily medications to help control my asthma, Dulera (twice a day) and Spiriva (once a day). I use Dulera when I wake up in the morning and at night before I go to bed. I have no problem remembering to use Dulera. It is Spiriva that I have often forgotten if I’ve taken it or not. You are not supposed to use Spiriva more than once a day so if I can’t remember, I miss a dose.

I am happy to say I have not missed a dose of Spiriva since I set up my medication reminders.

Recording Symptom Impact

The Storylines Asthma app helps create a comprehensive view of how my asthma manifests itself and helps identify potential triggers. You can keep a daily record of the symptoms you are experiencing such as shortness of breath, labored breathing, and wheezing. The app has a list of asthma triggers such as dust, pollen, mold, weather changes and more. If a particular trigger impacted your symptoms that day, just add a check mark next to it. There is even space to add your own triggers if yours is not listed.

The asthma app also allows you to track your moods and emotions. Having asthma can be stressful and stress can trigger an asthma attack. Keeping track of the emotional impact your asthma symptoms cause will, in turn, help you to better control your asthma symptoms.

Which is why I really like the Healthy Doses tool. It is a collection of quotes and affirmations for your mind and spirit. You can choose gratitude, optimism, funny, love, or mindfulness.

Try It For Yourself

There is much more to the Storylines Asthma App than I have mentioned in this post. The app is free and it has been a great asset in tracking and managing my asthma symptoms. If you or a loved one has asthma, I highly recommend trying it for yourself.
